Countdown

a way of life

It's amazing what you take for granted. Go take a shower, and think about how you would feel if someone was to knock on your door after five minutes, to let you know you have less than five minutes to finish your shower and get out of the bathroom.

Next time you shave, imagine having someone watch you.

Imagine having to ask permission to use even a plastic knife.

Some of you are not allowed to own shampoo. Some of you are not allowed to wear your clothes, instead forced to walk around all day in your pajamas.

I work with young ladies who live that life. True, this was not some dreadful thing that happened to perfect angels...these are women who may be abusive, either to themselves, or to others. They may have been addicted to drugs or alcohol. They may have been raped, neglected or abused. They may have problems with "sexual boundaries."

Now obviously all parts of the program serve a purpose. There is no two way mirror where someone somewhere takes perverse pleasure in subjecting these women to this way of life. Hopefully when they leave, they will have learned lessons that will serve as a deterrant...the life they are living now, as much as it might suck, is better than one in jail.

Anyway, this is something I think about sometimes...how lucky I am...

Before - After
